An introduction/overview of Project Management for folks who are either new to Project Management or have been doing it for some time but without formal training.

This topic will cover a number of the concepts that Project Managers need to be aware of, and explaining why they may (or may not) be important to how you manage your projects.  Microsoft Project Online will be used for several examples.

This is the second in our series of free monthly webinars offered by Simplex-IT, who recently introduced their Project Management Practice, Simplex-PM. Aimed at Project Managers in the Small to Medium Business world.  Simplex-PM offers mentoring, training and support for organizations and people struggling to implement Project Management into their organization.

Missed our first one?

Project Management for Small-Medium Businesses. Some companies have problems applying project management tools and practices in their day-to-day operations. Tools are too complicated, and way too expensive. The cost of full-blown experienced project managers is prohibitive, and you don’t need that skill set full-time, anyway.

Project Online is the Cloud based version of Microsoft Project Server (and part of the Microsoft Office 365 product mix). Prior to Project Online, an organization had to make a significant investment in Project Server, and often times SharePoint, to have these same capabilities. Now it’s available as a service, without requiring the hardware and infrastructure Project Server did. It’s a great tool for managing projects, programs, and portfolios of projects, as well as resources, costs, risks etc.

Join us as Patti Smerk, Project Guru with Simplex-IT gives us a quick tour of Microsoft’s Project Online offerings.

When:  Thursday, November 20th, 2014, 2:00pm

Where:  Online

Simplex-IT is announcing a new service – Project Management for the small to mid sized businesses. We’ve traditionally seen Project Management tools and methodologies in place at the large corporate level, but we bringing it to the smaller guys.

Simplex-IT would like to announce a new service led by our own Patti Smerk – Project Management Support for the small to mid sized businesses. We’ve traditionally seen project management training, tools, and methodologies in place at the large corporate level, but we would like to help bring it to the smaller guys. And Microsoft now has some affordable tools to help with that.

On the tools side, Project Online is the Cloud based version of Microsoft Project Server (and part of the Microsoft Office 365 product mix). Prior to Project Online, an organization had to make a significant investment in Project Server, and often times SharePoint, to have these same capabilities. But it’s not all about the technology. We want to help employees become better at Project Management overall, not just better at using a tool, through a combination of coaching, training and monitoring.

You may be thinking, “there’s no way our company will implement a full Project Management program. – they just want to get things done.” A lot of us struggle with “corporate cultures” that need to change in order for Project Management practices to succeed.  We can help you manage that change.

So whether you currently have project managers in place who just need some help improving their efficiency, or some folks working off of post it notes, we can help. We provide you with the tools and approach needed to succeed.

So, how are we going to accomplish this?  Patti Smerk is joining the fun-filled ranks of Simplex-IT to head up this program.  She was most recently a Program Project Manager at Booz Allen Hamilton.  To read her welcoming intro, click here.

(And wait until you hear what we’re doing for our SQL friends.  More on that next month!)

Hello there, I’m Patti Smerk. I’ve recently started working with Simplex-IT, so I wanted to introduce myself.

Where to begin? For the past 7+ years I’ve been with Booz Allen Hamilton, an IT consulting firm working mainly with large scale government clients on enterprise wide projects and programs. Prior to that I worked in consulting for ALG Computer Consulting and Training, working mainly with local small to mid-sized businesses. Before that, I taught software classes and technical bootcamps at ALG. Consulting just seemed like a natural progression from training, but I still really love when I get the chance to do some training every now and then.

One of the things I’m most passionate about when it comes to technology is Microsoft Project and Project Server/Project Online. I’m a Project Management Professional (PMP) and really like the benefits of using these tools to manage projects and programs. And don’t even get me started on dashboards ;-)

My husband and I like to spend our spare time at our cabin in the middle of nowhere, enjoying the great outdoors. We recently got a 3 month old puppy, so if you have any training tips, please send them my way!

I’m looking forward to what life brings at Simplex-IT and working with all of you!  Feel free to contact me here.
