One of my all-time favorite animating studios is Pixar. I’m sure I’ve seen everything they ever created. One of my favorite series is Toy Story. Did you know “Toy Story 2″ almost didn’t make it to the big screen?

The story goes, someone entered a code and the hard drive containing the Pixar story was automatically erasing the “Toy Story 2″ movie. There vanished Al’s Toy Barn, the characters, and Andy’s room, oh no! 20-30 people working for a solid year would have to recreate all the work that was erased in about 20 seconds.

Most of the film is gone. Gaylyn, the technical director of the film, thought “no worries” we’ll just go get the backup of the files. Moments later, the awful news arrived, the backups where bad. No backup was available to restore Woody, Buzz, Mr. Potato Head, Ham & Rex!

Luckily, Gaylyn was able to work from home to see her children, and “saved the day” with a backup of the movie data on her computer from home.

Moral of the story: You may think you have a backup, but it’s another thing to know you have a backup. Do you have multiple, separate backup devices or test your backups regularly? Do you even know what I’m saying? See Simplex-IT for your backup needs and concerns. We can help you! We make maintaining your network simple.

For your daily dose of humor, here’s the Pixar Studio Stories-Movie vanishes.
