By now you may have heard – effective April 8, 2014 Microsoft will no longer support its most popular operating system of all time, Windows XP. And that’s not all! Office 2003 will be reaching its End of Support on that date, as well.

You may well be wondering, “What does this mean to me? Call me old fashioned, but I’m still using Windows XP and/or Office 2003 and the software seems to be working just fine. What’s going to happen on April 8? Will the software continue to work? Or not? Will I be exposing myself or my company to potential risks if I don’t upgrade? How concerned should I be?”

Fear not, dear reader, because Simplex-IT is here to answer these and other questions you may have and we’ll even buy lunch to entice you to join us! Join us for our next free Lunchinar where we’ll discuss the options and risks if you don’t – or can’t – upgrade your software.

Say goodbye to XP, do some networking and watch a classic SF movie on the big screen!

  • Date:     Tuesday April 8th, 2014
  • Time:     Networking starts at 5:30pm, tribute to XP and 2003 at 6:30pm. Movie at 7.
  • Where:   The Kent Stage, 175 East Main Street, Kent, Oh 44240

You know it’s going away. You know you’ll miss it.

Why not say goodbye?

April 8th marks the end of support from Microsoft for both Windows XP and Office 2003. Yeah, they’re going to continue updating Endpoint, Security Essentials and other security pieces that work with XP. But XP and Office 2003 are going away.

Soooo…howzabout a going away party? And maybe a movie, while we’re at it?

So, here’s what we did. We’re taking over The Kent Stage (um…it’s in Kent, 175 East Main Street, Kent, Oh 44240), a really cool theater with a whole bunch of history. We’re going to start with a networking event, followed by a big-screen showing of the 1956 classic science fiction movie “Forbidden Planet.”

The event is free, as will be the popcorn. There will be a cash bar, with proceeds benefitting The Kent Stage (a non-profit group, btw).

***This is open to everybody***

Absolutely this movie event is ok for kids, btw.  The movie part, anyway.  We suspect they’ll be bored to tears with the networking.

XP Reaches End of Support – April 2014!

Here at Simplex-IT, we’ve been talking about the impending date of April 8, 2014 for some time now. That’s when Microsoft will officially end its support for Windows XP AND Office 2003. It was even a central topic of discussion in our most recent Lunchinar – “How Do You Know When Your I.T. is Obsolete?” (Watch the Simplex-IT blog site to be notified when the Lunchinar is published on our YouTube channel for your viewing convenience!)  And we’ve been encouraging businesses and individuals alike to become knowledgeable and start making their plans for this change in the computing landscape.

But what does it all really mean? Will it really be the end of life as we know it? Or is it much ado about nothing?

For an interesting perspective on the answer to this question I highly recommend this article – “What the Windows XPocalypse Means For You!” – found on one of my favorite websites, It reviews the major issues around the End of Support and should provide extra food for thought for those of you who may be still sitting on the fence on this issue.

No matter what course of action you decide to take, our central goal is to make sure you have all the information you need prior to making your decision. Of course, if questions remain and you need additional clarification, we are always happy to provide counsel. Don’t hesitate to contact us!

On April 8, 2014, official support for Microsoft’s highly successful XP operating system will end. As business and IT professionals, I’m going to suggest you spend a little time thinking about what this is going to mean for your organization – if you haven’t done so already.

In May, 2012, IDC (International Data Corporation) authored a White Paper with the above title, strongly suggesting that moving to a modern operating system like Windows 7, or even Windows 8, would be a smart idea from several perspectives, not the least of which is financial. As the premier global provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and events for the information technology, telecommunications and consumer technology markets, it’s fair to say they bring a lot of expertise to the table.

You can download the IDC White Paper here. Or, if you prefer, you can choose to watch a 15-minute video presentation by the paper’s author, Al Hillen, by clicking

That’s why we’re here!
